The country's tourism department recently conducted an archeological expedition to Ghagha Island, west of the capital Abu Dhabi. The remains of an eight and a half thousand year old building have been found there. Archaeologists in the Middle East have unearthed a 6,000-year-old building in the United Arab Emirates. It is believed that these discovered buildings are the oldest structures in the country.
The Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism said in a statement on Thursday (February 18th) that the new discovery was more than 500 years older than the previously discovered archeological site.
The country's tourism department recently conducted an archeological expedition to Ghagha Island, west of the capital Abu Dhabi. The ruins of a thousand year old building have been found there. The statement said the structures discovered were basically "like ordinary round houses". And the walls of the house are made of stone, which still stands about one meter (3.3 feet) high.
Archaeologists say the houses were probably built by a small community to keep the island safe all year round. They also say that Neolithic settlements existed long before these buildings created long-distance maritime trade routes. In other words, archaeologists previously thought that this was not really the motivation for settlement in the area.
In addition to the installation, they have found hundreds more patterns here. These include 'dotted arrows made of stone', which were used for hunting. Experts believe that the community living here probably made a living using the vast resources of the sea.
Although archaeologists are still unsure how long the settlement lasted; However, they discovered a corpse buried in the installation. The body is thought to be at least 5,000 years old.
"The discovery of Ghagha Island proves that features of innovation, sustainability and resilience have been part of the region's heritage for thousands of years," said Mohammed al-Mubarak, chairman of the tourism department.
The archaeological team leading the new discovery says the discovery of Ghagha Island shows that the islands of Abu Dhabi were formerly 'fertile coastal lands'; There were no 'dry' and 'residential areas' like now. Due to the fertility of the land and the ecological location, the eastern men were interested in settling on these islands.
